Whether a sales person approaches you as soon as you step out of your vehicle in their parking lot, or waits until you walk into their showroom, their whole purpose is to make you like them and establish the basis by which you will agree with their suggestions.

It is important that you recognize at this point that you are what is known as an “UP” to the car salesman - simply put - a sales opportunity. As this is the case, expect the salesperson to promptly suggest that you follow them to their desk so that they can help you further. Be aware that this moves you further along in their selling process, and that each step subtly increases their control over the situation, while reducing your control.
